Who We Are
More about Alaska's Big Village Network
Where:
Anchorage, Alaska, is where ABVN's global communication vibration is centered.
Anchorage is the biggest “village” in Alaska with indigenous peoples from 100’s of villages, spanning thousands of miles. Much of the demographics of ABVN folks are below poverty thresholds as measured by US standards; including many people with disabilities and disproportionate health issues. ABVN is working with multiple generations of indigenous peoples that have been disenfranchised and oppressed in the current political, economic, and institutional systems.
What:
ABVN is addressing social, economic, environmental and racial disparities in rural and urban Alaska. ABVN is working with science experts, professors, grandparents and children on innovative community problem solving. In order to address unmet human needs and cultural misunderstanding, ABVN is proud to be working with youth and elders from traditional indigenous cultures & non-indigenous communities to improve cross-cultural understanding and respect for multiple worldviews.
Who:
The steering committee's expertise of multiple disciplines is primarily conditioned by the natural world and accumulates in varying levels of experience and knowledge to maximize the wisdom of Alaska's Big Village Network's actions, strategies and planning efforts to create communities of inclusion.
